Why Da Lat grows so many flowers
The cool highland climate lets farmers grow flowers all year round. Since the French period, villages around the city have specialised in flowers, and today a large share of the cut flowers sold in Vietnam's big cities comes from Da Lat. From the hills you will see the white roofs of greenhouses (nhà kính) everywhere — most of them are flower and vegetable farms.
Van Thanh flower village — the closest
Van Thanh (làng hoa Vạn Thành) is only about 2–3 km west of the centre, close to Domaine de Marie church. It is one of the oldest flower villages in Da Lat, with small lanes between greenhouses of roses, chrysanthemums, gerberas and other cut flowers. Ride slowly through the lanes, look in from the road and, if a family is working outside, ask with a smile before you take photos. It combines well with a visit to the Domaine de Marie pink church.
Thai Phien flower village — the biggest
Thai Phien (làng hoa Thái Phiên) lies about 5–6 km northeast of the centre. It is a large farming area on gentle slopes, known for chrysanthemums, roses and many other flowers grown both in greenhouses and in open beds. The roads here are quieter than in town and the views over the valley are lovely in the morning light.
Hydrangea fields and photo farms
Hydrangeas (cẩm tú cầu) grow very well in Da Lat. Several farms, especially in the Trai Mat direction east of the city (about 7–10 km), have opened their hydrangea fields to visitors. These photo farms usually charge a small entrance fee, which goes to the family that looks after the flowers — check it at the gate. On the way you can also stop at Linh Phuoc Pagoda.

The city flower garden
If you want flowers without leaving the centre, the Da Lat Flower Garden (Vườn hoa thành phố) sits on the northern shore of Xuan Huong Lake. It is a landscaped park with flower beds, greenhouses and garden paths — easy to reach on any bike, including an electric scooter. There is an entrance ticket.
When to go
- Time of day: early morning is best — soft light, fewer people and farmers at work. By late morning greenhouses get hot.
- Season: flowers are grown all year, but the dry season (roughly December–April) gives sunny days and dry lanes. Late October and November also bring wild sunflowers along the roads — see our wild sunflower guide.
- December: Da Lat's Flower Festival usually takes place around the end of the year; check the official dates before you plan.
Etiquette on working farms
- Most greenhouses are private workplaces: don't walk in without permission and never pick flowers.
- Don't touch plastic covers or irrigation pipes, and stay on paths.
- Buy a bunch of flowers from the farm if you'd like a souvenir — it is the nicest way to say thank you.
- Don't fly drones over people's land without asking.
Riding tips
- Village lanes are narrow and sometimes muddy after rain — ride slowly and watch for small trucks loading flowers.
- Park fully off the road before taking photos, never on a bend.
- A Honda Vision 110cc is perfect for these short rides; the Air Blade 125cc is more comfortable for two people on hills.
- No alcohol when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law.
