Opening hours and Mass times

You can walk around the grounds during the hours above. The church is a working place of worship: during Mass it is closed to sightseeing, and Sunday mornings are the busiest. Mass times change from time to time, so check the notice board at the gate.

Entrance fee and parking

Entry is free; a donation box helps the sisters look after the grounds. There is motorbike parking at the site — follow the staff's directions and lock your bike.

How to get there by motorbike

From Da Lat Market it's only about 1 km — roughly 5 minutes by scooter. Search "Domaine de Marie" or "1 Ngo Quyen" in Google Maps. The church sits on a small hill, so the last stretch climbs gently: fine on an electric scooter (two riders under 100 kg in total) and easy on a Honda Vision 110cc or Air Blade 125cc.

A short history

Construction began in 1940 and the church was inaugurated in 1942. It belongs to the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, a Catholic order whose sisters still live in the convent. The 3-metre statue of the Virgin Mary was designed by the French architect Jonchère in 1943 and donated by Suzanne Decoux, wife of the Governor-General of French Indochina; she died in 1944 and her tomb lies behind the church.

Architecture

Domaine de Marie blends French church architecture with Vietnamese touches. The pink walls have a rough, textured finish; the front is a tall triangle crowned by a cross, with a round rose window and rows of small pointed arched windows. The roofs echo the nhà rông, the communal stilt house of the Central Highlands. Inside, look for the wooden beamed ceiling, the stained glass and the statue of Mary standing on a globe, with a Vietnamese-looking face.

Please be respectful

This is a place of prayer and home to the sisters. Keep your voice down, don't pick flowers or walk on the grass (the signs ask for this), and ask first before a wedding shoot or flying a drone.
