Batteries and display
- Two batteries. Every Van Phu electric scooter comes with 2 batteries. Check that both are with the scooter and fully charged before you leave.
- Battery indicator. Ask us to show you where the battery level appears on the display and how it looks when it is getting low.
- How to switch batteries. Watch once how the second battery is used, so you are not guessing later on the road.
- Swap plan. If you need more, come back to the shop and we swap in a full battery for 20,000 VND. How far the batteries go is explained in our battery guide.
Power, throttle and brakes
- Power on and off. Learn how to turn the scooter on and off and how the key or switch works. An electric scooter makes almost no sound, so check the display to know it is on.
- Gentle throttle. Electric motors pull straight away. Try the throttle slowly in the shop area before riding into traffic.
- Brakes. Squeeze front and rear levers: they should feel firm and stop the wheels. Da Lat's streets are hilly even in the centre, so this matters.
- Tyres. Visible tread, no cracks, not soft.

Lights, horn and mirrors
- Headlight, tail light, brake light and turn signals all working.
- Horn: test it. Because the motor is so quiet, pedestrians and other riders may not hear you coming — a short tap of the horn at junctions helps.
- Both mirrors present and adjusted for you.
Helmet, phone holder and storage
- A free helmet for each rider that fits snugly, with the strap clicking shut.
- The phone holder is firm so you can follow the map without holding your phone.
- Check what fits in the storage space for a raincoat and water.
Video and rules before you ride
Before every rental we do a short test ride with you and film the scooter's condition together — every side, including existing scratches. Then we go through the main rules: maximum 2 riders with a combined weight under 140 kg, city and nearby sights only, and no long steep passes such as Prenn, Mimosa or Lang Biang — for those, choose the Honda Air Blade 125cc. The full list is in our electric scooter rental rules. Renting a petrol scooter instead? Use the 10-point motorbike checklist.
