Can an electric scooter climb Da Lat's hills?
Yes — in the city and on the roads to nearby sights it climbs normal slopes without trouble. It is slower than a petrol scooter on long, steep climbs, especially with two people, so it suits city riding and short trips best. For long steep passes such as Prenn, Mimosa or the road up to Lang Biang, we recommend the Honda Air Blade 125cc instead.
Climbing tips
- Use a smooth, steady throttle. Build up a little speed before the slope rather than starting hard in the middle of it.
- Try not to stop halfway up a steep street. If you must, pull over to the side, hold the brake, then start again gently.
- With two riders the scooter climbs more slowly. On a very short, very steep stretch the passenger can get off and walk the last bit.
- Keep to the right and let faster bikes pass.
Braking downhill
- Slow down before the descent, not halfway down.
- Use both brakes together, gently and early; avoid grabbing the front brake hard.
- Keep your speed low enough to stop within the distance you can see, especially on bends.
- Wet roads and painted lines are slippery after rain — ride even slower. See our tips for an electric scooter in the rain.

Two riders on hills
An electric scooter carries a maximum of 2 riders with a combined weight under 140 kg. Near that limit, climbs are slower and braking distances longer, so leave more space and ride calmly. The passenger should sit still and lean with the rider, not against the turn.
Hills and the battery
Climbing uses more battery than riding on the flat, and two riders use more than one. Each scooter comes with 2 batteries, and you can swap in a full one at our shop for 20,000 VND. Plan hilly rides so you pass the shop when you need a fresh battery; our battery guide explains how to plan your day.
Where hills are fine — and where to switch bikes
- Good on an electric scooter: the city centre, Xuan Huong Lake, the station area, Domaine de Marie, cafés in town and other short hilly streets.
- Better on the Air Blade: Prenn and Mimosa passes, Lang Biang, Cau Dat and other long hill rides out of town.

Safety basics
- An electric scooter is almost silent — pedestrians may not hear you coming downhill. Use the horn gently.
- Vietnam drives on the right; helmets on for both riders.
- No alcohol or beer when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law.
