Rain in Da Lat: what to expect
The rainy season runs roughly from May to November. Mornings are often dry and showers usually come in the afternoon, sometimes heavy for an hour and then gone. So the simplest plan when you rent an electric scooter in Da Lat in the rain season is to ride in the morning and keep the afternoon flexible. Our rainy day guide has ideas for what to do while it pours.
Can you ride an electric scooter in the rain?
Yes — riding in normal rain is fine. What matters is how you ride and where:
- Never ride through deep water. After a heavy downpour some low streets flood for a short time. Turn around or wait — this is one of our electric scooter rental rules.
- Slow down on hills. Da Lat's streets go up and down all the time, and wet asphalt, painted lines and steel covers are slippery.
- Brake early and gently, using both brakes together, and avoid sudden turns.
- Keep more distance from the vehicle in front — stopping takes longer on a wet road.

What to wear
- A good raincoat or poncho; a two-piece rain suit is best for riding. Cheap ponchos are sold in shops all over the centre.
- Closed shoes or sandals with grip — flip-flops slip on wet ground.
- A light jacket under the raincoat: rain makes Da Lat feel colder.
- Keep your phone and wallet in a plastic bag.
Visibility
In heavy rain drivers see less. Ride with your headlight on, use your indicators early and stay on the right. Electric scooters are quiet, so take extra care near pedestrians with umbrellas who may not hear you. Clean your mirrors before you set off again.
Battery and range in wet weather
Your range stays the same as on a dry day: one battery lasts about 35–40 km, and each scooter comes with 2 batteries, about 60–70 km in total. Hills and two riders use more power, rain or not. Don't open the battery compartment in the rain, and if you need a fresh battery, bring the scooter to our shop — a swap costs 20,000 VND.
Where to ride when it's wet
Stay in the city: Xuan Huong Lake, the market area and nearby cafés are all close together, so you can ride a few minutes, then sit out a shower over coffee. Long steep passes such as Prenn, Mimosa or the road up Lang Biang are not for electric scooters at any time — and even less in the rain. For trips like that, rent a Honda Air Blade 125cc. Easy city loops are in exploring Da Lat by electric scooter.
Parking in the rain
Use a guarded parking lot (gửi xe), under a roof if possible, and lock the scooter. Wipe the seat before you sit down — or keep a small cloth under the seat.
Safety basics
- Max 2 riders with a combined weight under 140 kg; both wear helmets.
- No alcohol or beer when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law.
- If a storm is very heavy, simply stop somewhere safe and wait — showers in Da Lat rarely last long.
