1. A clear, fixed price
A reliable shop tells you the full daily price before you arrive, in writing, and charges exactly that. Ask how the rental day is counted (when it starts and when the bike must be back) and what happens if you return late. If the price changes when you show up, that's a warning sign. For reference, see how much it costs to rent a motorbike in Da Lat.
2. No hidden fees
Ask directly: is anything extra? Helmet, phone holder, fuel, delivery, a "cleaning fee"? A good answer lists what's included and what isn't — before you sign or pay.
3. Simple, honest paperwork
You should know exactly what you leave with the shop and when you get it back. A cash deposit is not always necessary; some shops, like ours, keep only a passport or ID card. Read more in renting without a cash deposit.
4. Written rules you can read
Reliable shops share their rules in writing: return time, what to do if something breaks, how many riders, where not to ride. Clear rules protect both you and the shop, and they avoid arguments later.
5. A condition check — ideally on video
Before you ride away, walk around the bike together and film it: scratches, mirrors, lights, tyres, brakes. A shop that suggests this itself is showing that it has nothing to hide. Our checklist before renting a motorbike shows what to look at.

6. Well-maintained bikes and a test ride
Look at the tyres, try both brakes and the horn, check the lights. Ask for a short test ride — a reliable shop will offer one and swap the bike if something feels wrong. Helmets should be clean and fasten properly.
7. Easy to reach while you ride
Things happen on the road: a flat tyre, a dead phone, a wrong turn. Make sure the shop answers on an app you use (WhatsApp, Zalo, Telegram or WeChat) and save the number before you leave.
8. Honest advice, not just a rental
A good shop tells you which bike suits your plans — even if it's not the one you asked for — and warns you about steep passes, weather and safety. Real reviews from other travellers are useful too; read several, not just the best ones.
