How Grab and taxis work in Da Lat
Grab is widely used in Da Lat, both as a car and as a motorbike ride (GrabBike), and regular taxis wait near the market and big hotels. You pay per trip, and the fare depends on distance, time of day and demand, so it changes. Quick for one ride; it adds up over a day of many short stops.
How an electric scooter rental works
With us you pay one fixed price: 150,000 VND per day, from pick-up until 21:00. One battery lasts about 35–40 km; each scooter comes with 2 batteries, about 60–70 km in total — more than enough for a day in the city. If you need more, a battery swap at the shop costs 20,000 VND. Helmet and phone holder are included, and there's no cash deposit — you leave your passport or ID card.
Electric scooter rental vs Grab: side by side
- Cost: Grab charges per ride; the scooter is one price for the whole day, however many stops you make. If you only have one or two trips, Grab can be simpler. For a day of sightseeing, the scooter is usually the easier budget.
- Freedom: on a scooter you stop when you see a café, a view or a flower garden. No waiting for a driver and no app needed at every stop.
- Waiting: in the centre a Grab arrives quickly; at quieter spots on the edge of town or late in the evening it can take longer to find one for the way back.
- Weather: in a heavy downpour a Grab car keeps you dry. On a scooter you wear a raincoat — or wait out the shower in a café, which usually doesn't take long.
- Groups: a scooter carries max 2 riders with a combined weight under 140 kg. A family of four or a group with luggage is better off in a car.
- Experience: riding a quiet electric scooter past the lake and pine hills is part of the fun of Da Lat — something you miss from a back seat.

When Grab or a taxi is the better choice
- After drinks. If you plan beer with dinner, leave the scooter parked and take a Grab — no alcohol when riding is a firm rule.
- The airport and long passes. Lien Khuong Airport is about 30 km away down Prenn Pass. Electric scooters are not for long steep passes (Prenn, Mimosa, Lang Biang); take a car — or rent a Honda Air Blade 125cc for trips out of town.
- Big luggage or more than two people.
The smart mix
Many travellers rent an electric scooter for the days they explore the city — lake, market, cafés, churches — and use Grab for the airport transfer or a late night out. For city ideas, see exploring Da Lat by electric scooter.
Before you ride
- Read our short electric scooter rental rules: weight limit, battery, parking.
- Park in guarded lots (gửi xe) and lock the scooter.
- Electric scooters are quiet — watch for pedestrians who may not hear you.
- Strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law: ride on the right, helmets on for both riders.
