Why electric suits families and older riders
An electric scooter starts with a gentle twist of the throttle, has no gears and no clutch, and makes almost no noise. There is no hot exhaust pipe for a child's leg to touch, and the scooter is light to push, park and turn around. For relaxed rides between the hotel, Xuan Huong Lake, the flower garden and a café, many older travellers find it calmer than a petrol scooter.
The rules that matter for families
- Maximum 2 people per scooter, with a combined weight under 140 kg. In practice that is one adult with a child, or two lighter adults. A family of four usually takes two scooters.
- Every rider wears a helmet, passengers too. Free helmets come with every bike — try them on at the shop and make sure the strap is snug, especially for children.
- The rider must be at least 16. A child always rides behind the adult, holding on with both hands, feet on the footrests.
- No alcohol or beer when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law. Vietnam drives on the right.
All rules are on one page: electric scooter rental rules.

Easy family routes in the city
- Around Xuan Huong Lake, with stops at the city flower garden and Lam Vien Square.
- Da Lat Railway Station and Domaine de Marie church — short hops with parking nearby.
- Da Lat Market in the morning, then a café with a garden.
Choose short legs with breaks: children and older riders get tired and cold faster than they expect. Da Lat's streets are hilly even in the centre, so go slowly downhill and use both brakes gently. Avoid long, steep passes such as Prenn, Mimosa and the road up Lang Biang — for trips out of town, the Honda Air Blade 125cc is the better choice, at the same price.
Battery: simple to plan
Every scooter comes with 2 batteries. Hills and a passenger use more power, so head back when about a third is left. Need more? Come back to our central shop and we swap in a full battery for 20,000 VND — a good moment for a snack break. How far a battery goes is explained in our electric scooter battery guide.
Tips for older travellers
- Take the free test ride at the shop and practise starting, stopping and turning in our quiet lane before you go.
- Ride in daylight, and plan to be back before dark.
- Dress warmly — mornings and evenings are cool on a scooter — and keep a raincoat under the seat.
- Pedestrians may not hear an electric scooter coming: ride slowly near markets and use the horn gently.
- Prefer not to ride? A passenger seat behind a family member works too.
