Why you need a bike before dawn
The best moments in Da Lat are early. Cloud hunting (săn mây) on the hills starts around 4:30–6:30, sunrise is usually between about 5:15 and 6:00, and the mist over the lakes is gone soon after. If your rental shop opens at 8:00, you miss all of it. Grab can be slow to find at that hour, and taxis cannot take you along small hill roads at your own pace.
Our shop opens at 4:30 am, every day
Van Phu opens at 4:30 am every day of the week, including weekends. Our shop is at 1/15/5 Thông Thiên Học, close to the centre, so most guests can reach it quickly from their hotel. You can pick up your bike right at opening time and be on the road a few minutes later. That makes us a simple choice when you need an early motorbike rental in Da Lat.
Two ways to do it
- Pick up at dawn: message us the evening before with the time you will come and the bike you want. We have it ready at 4:30, do the paperwork in a few minutes (passport or ID card, no cash deposit), you take a short test ride and we film the bike's condition together. A rental day runs from pick-up until 21:00, so a bike picked up at dawn is yours for the whole day.
- Pick up the day before: if you are renting for several days, the easiest is to collect the bike the day before and leave straight from your hotel in the morning. Tell us your plan and we will confirm how the days are counted.

Which bike for an early ride
- Honda Air Blade 125cc: the best choice for the Cau Dat tea hills, Hon Bo, Lang Biang or any ride with two people up long hills.
- Honda Vision 110cc: light and easy for hills close to town and for lakes like Xuan Huong or Tuyen Lam.
- Electric scooter: fine for spots close to the centre. One battery lasts about 35–40 km and each scooter comes with 2 batteries (about 60–70 km in total), but avoid long steep passes such as Prenn, Mimosa or the road to Lang Biang.
Gas scooters come with 1 litre of fuel. For a longer dawn ride, fill up the evening before — some petrol stations are not open yet at 4:30.
Where to go at sunrise
Our cloud hunting guide explains the best hills, the season and what time to leave, and the Cau Dat tea hills guide covers the most popular sunrise ride outside town. The cloud-hunting map has eight spots with directions.
Riding safely in the dark
- It is cold before dawn: wear a warm jacket, long trousers and gloves — we lend a free helmet.
- Ride slowly with the headlight on; fog can make visibility very short.
- Keep to the right and watch for trucks and farm vehicles on hill roads.
- Save the route offline and use the phone holder on the bike instead of your hand.
- No alcohol or beer when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law.
