Da Lat's climate in short
Days in Da Lat are usually comfortable — around 20–25 °C. Evenings and nights are noticeably cooler, especially in the dry season, when it can drop to roughly 10–15 °C. So even in summer, bring a jacket or a warm sweater.
Dry season: December to April
The sunniest and most stable time. Clear skies, little rain and dry roads — ideal for riding out of town to the Cau Dat tea hills, Lang Biang Mountain and the waterfalls. Mornings can be fresh and misty, warming up by lunchtime.
In January and February the wild Himalayan cherry trees bloom and the city turns pink — one of the most beautiful times of the year.
Rainy season: May to November
Rain usually falls in the second half of the day and can be heavy but short. Mornings are usually clear, so plan long rides for the first half of the day. In return there are fewer tourists, everything is green and the waterfalls are at their fullest.
When Da Lat is busiest
- Tết (Vietnamese New Year, January–February) — peak season with visitors from all over the country; book hotels and transport early.
- Weekends — many visitors from Ho Chi Minh City, with more cars and bikes in the center.
- Weekdays — the quietest time, especially in the rainy season.
What to pack
- A jacket or windbreaker for evenings and rides.
- A raincoat — sold everywhere in Da Lat and cheap.
- Closed shoes for hills and waterfalls.
- Sunscreen — at altitude the sun is stronger than it feels.
Weather and riding
In the dry season you can plan full-day rides with no worries. In the rainy season leave early and be back by lunch; in fog, ride slowly with your lights on. If it pours, wait it out in a café — it usually stops within an hour or two.
