Why Da Lat works well for families
Da Lat sits at about 1,500 m, so it is cool all year — no heavy heat for small children, and the city centre is compact. Most family favourites are within a few kilometres of Xuan Huong Lake, which means short hops and lots of breaks instead of long transfers. The flip side: mornings and evenings are chilly, and the streets are hilly, so plan gentle days.
Child-friendly places in the city
- Xuan Huong Lake — a flat walk or ride around the water, swan pedal boats and plenty of space to run in the morning.
- The city flower garden by the lake — colourful, shady and easy for little legs.
- Lam Vien Square — open space to play, with the big glass flower and artichoke buildings children like to spot.
- Da Lat Railway Station — old trains to look at, and the short heritage train to Trai Mat when it runs.
- Crazy House — a fairy-tale building with tunnels and stairs; older kids love it, but hold small hands on the high walkways.
- The night market — grilled rice paper (bánh tráng nướng), warm soy milk and corn are easy wins with children. More in our night market guide.

Half-day outings just outside the centre
- Datanla Falls, about 5–6 km south — the alpine coaster down to the falls is a highlight for many families (check the age and height rules on site).
- Robin Hill cable car to Truc Lam Monastery and Tuyen Lam Lake — a calm ride above the pine forest. See our Tuyen Lam guide.
- Strawberry farms — picking your own fruit is fun for kids; the best season is roughly the dry months. Details in our strawberry farm guide.
- Flower villages such as Van Thanh — greenhouses and gardens to walk through.
Keep one main outing per half day, then go back for a rest or a café with a garden. Children tire quickly in the cool air, and an early dinner keeps everyone happy.
What to pack
- Warm layers, a light jacket and long trousers — even in the dry season, early mornings are cold.
- A raincoat for each person; afternoon showers are common from about May to November.
- Comfortable shoes with grip for hilly streets and waterfall paths.
- Sun cream and hats — the sun is strong at altitude even when the air feels cool.
Getting around as a family
Distances in Da Lat are short, so many families combine walking, Grab cars and scooters. A scooter works well for parents with older children who can sit securely and hold on: one adult and one child per bike, both wearing helmets, riding slowly and only in daylight. For toddlers and very young children, a taxi or Grab car is the safer way to reach sights farther away. Avoid long, steep passes with children on board, and remember: no alcohol or beer when riding, and strictly follow Vietnamese traffic law. Vietnam drives on the right.
Renting bikes for a family trip
At Văn Phú every bike costs 150,000 VND per day, with no cash deposit — you leave a passport or ID card. Free helmets come with each bike (try them on at the shop so the strap fits), plus a phone holder, and the Honda Vision and Air Blade come with 1 liter of fuel. For rentals of 2 days or more we deliver free to hotels in central Da Lat, so you don't need to bring the children to the shop. A family of four usually takes two bikes. See the bikes on our Da Lat motorbike rental page and message us with your dates and the number of riders.
